Survivor Support Groups
September 14, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pmFree
Thursday Night Support Group
Join other survivors who have experienced domestic violence. Individuals at all stages of the healing process are welcome for support groups.
The adult group features “sessions” that renew every 8 weeks, but survivors are welcome to come at any point in the 8 weeks, to come on days of special interest, or if a guest speaker is attending. This group is facilitated by our Domestic Violence Specialist and is open to community members in Lake County. Please call 440-357-1017 to learn more about this group and to get directions to the non-disclosed location.
The topic of this weeks session will be the understanding the abusive mentality. Discussions will be about what makes abusers choose to abuse and we will talk about the book “Why Does He Do That?” by Lundy Bancroft. A huge part of the healing process for many survivors is understanding why this person would choose to abuse. Hopefully this group will provide insight on this topic that will ultimately lead to closure.
The children’s group is held simultaneously to the adult group in a different room. It is lead by the Forbes House Children’s Counselor. Children watch videos, talk about feelings, learn coping skills, learn about healthy relationships, and have fun in a safe environment. This group is intended for children aged 4 to 14.
